The EU ETS was set up in 2005. The aviation scope of the EU ETS was initially limited to flights within the EEA until 2016 and later extended to 2023. The aviation activities within the initial scope of the EU ETS included all flights from or to an aerodrome situated in the territory of a Member State to which the Treaty applies, with some exceptions as listed in Annex I of the EU ETS Directive.

Measures to strengthen the EU ETS

Carbon credits to offset CO 2 emissions are due by April 30th of the reporting year.
